Matcha Frappe (GF/DF/V)

  • 1 C unsweetened non-dairy milk frozen cubes (we like coconut & oat milk for this recipe and LOVE these cube trays)

  • 1 C unsweetened non-dairy milk

  • 1/4 C hot water

  • 1/4 ripe avocado

  • 1 Tbsp matcha powder

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1-2 dates (could also use 1/2 - 1 frozen banana to sweeten)

  • optional: Coco Whip to serve

Heat the water in a sauce pan. Turn off heat and stir in matcha powder until smooth.

In a blender, add milk cubes, milk, avocado, matcha blend, vanilla, and dates. Blend until ice chunks are broken down and mixture is smooth. Serve and top with a bit of coco-whip if desired. We find it plenty sweet without the Whip, but certainly understand if you want to include. Enjoy!

Matcha is a concentrated powdered form of green tea. Unlike other types of tea, matcha contains the entire tea leaves, providing a more concentrated source of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, amino acids, and fiber. The secret behind matcha’s superfood strength is found in its polyphenol compounds called catechins, which are a type of antioxidant found in superfoods like apples. Potential benefits of matcha include: cancer prevention, improved immune function, increased energy, promotion of weight loss, prevention of oxidative stress, to name a few.

Not all matcha is created equal. When purchasing, choose organic or non-gmo varieties and check that the contents contain only matcha. Our favorite is Pique.
