10 Common Symptoms Women Think Are Normal (But Aren’t)

As women, we’re often told that certain symptoms are just part of life.

You’re a mom. You’re busy. You’re getting older. You’re stressed. Most of us have heard at least one of these. And while those things can certainly impact how we feel, many symptoms that have become common aren’t necessarily normal.

At Kale Blossom, we believe symptoms are often our body’s way of communicating that it needs support. Here are 10 things many women assume are normal. but are worth paying attention to.

1. Waking Up Tired Every Morning

If you’re getting a reasonable amount of sleep but still wake up exhausted, your body may be signaling issues with stress, blood sugar balance, nutrient status, sleep quality, or hormone health.

2. Needing Caffeine to Function

Enjoying coffee is one thing. Feeling completely unable to start your day without it is another. Constant dependence on caffeine can sometimes point to underlying fatigue, poor sleep, or depleted reserves.

3. The Afternoon Energy Crash

That 2-3 p.m. slump isn’t something you simply have to accept. Blood sugar imbalances, inadequate protein intake, stress, dehydration, and poor sleep can all contribute to energy crashes throughout the day.

4. Brain Fog

Forgetfulness, difficulty concentrating, and feeling mentally “cloudy” are often brushed off as mom brain. However, brain fog can also be associated with hormone shifts, nutrient deficiencies, inflammation, poor sleep, and chronic stress.

5. PMS That Disrupts Your Life

While mild symptoms before your cycle can occur, severe mood swings, debilitating cramps, migraines, or symptoms that interfere with daily life deserve attention. A perfect example of symptoms that have been labeled as “normal”, but are NOT!

6. Constant Bloating

Feeling bloated after every meal isn’t something your body should have to tolerate. Digestive symptoms can provide important clues about gut health, food sensitivities, digestion, and overall wellness.

7. Hair Thinning

Many women assume thinning hair is simply a part of aging. In reality, factors such as nutrient deficiencies (iron, B-vitamins, vitamin D, etc), thyroid dysfunction, hormone imbalances, and chronic stress can all play a role.

8. Feeling Overwhelmed by Everything

Life can be demanding – juggling kids, work, marriage, cooking, cleaning, managing the home… but constantly feeling like you’re operating at your limit may indicate that your nervous system is under more strain than it can comfortably handle.

9. Waking Up in the Middle of the Night

If you regularly find yourself staring at the ceiling at 2 or 3AM, it may be worth exploring factors such as stress, blood sugar regulation, cortisol patterns, or hormone changes.

10. Not Feeling Like Yourself

Perhaps the most important one of all.

Many women tell us, “I just don’t feel like me anymore.”

Whether it’s low energy, mood changes, brain fog, or a general sense that something feels off, your experience matters. You know your body better than anyone.

So, Where Do You Start?

If you’ve recognized yourself in several of the symptoms above, don’t panic and don’t assume you need a complicated protocol.

More often than not, we encourage women to start with the foundations:

✓ Prioritize protein at every meal! Most women need around 25-30g/meal or a total around 90g/day

✓ Support stable blood sugar by pairing carbohydrates with protein and healthy fats

✓ Get outside for natural sunlight (first thing in the morning!) and daily movement

✓ Create boundaries around stress and prioritize restorative sleep – sleep matters above all

✓ Reduce unnecessary toxin exposures in your home and personal care products – read our article “Creating a Healthier Home” for ideas on where to start.

✓ Consider targeted lab testing to identify potential nutrient deficiencies, blood sugar imbalances, thyroid dysfunction, or hormone shifts. And find a supportive provider who will partner with you – not preside over you

And remember: supplements can be supportive, but they work best when built on a strong foundation of nutrition and lifestyle habits.

At Kale Blossom, we believe wellness doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Small, intentional changes can create meaningful results over time. Your symptoms are not a sign that your body is failing you. They’re an invitation to listen more closely and give your body the support it’s been asking for.
